Kevin Hart’s Company Hartbeat Honors Sundance Fellowship Recipients for Women Write Now

Kevin Hart’s company Hartbeat honored this year's fellowship recipients for WOMEN WRITE NOW during the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Hartbeat is the comedic screenwriting fellowship, created in partnership with Sundance Institute, that is designed to champion the next generation of Black women in comedy.

The screening event took place Sunday, January 22nd, and premiered three winning films from the Black female writers that were selected for the program. The films were directed by Logan Browning, Tika Sumpter, and Nicole Byer, all of whom were in attendance.





The fellowship is part of Hartbeat’s ongoing commitment to supporting and celebrating women in the entertainment industry. The fellowship will provide mentorship, resources, and funding for selected female writers to create their own projects.

The selection process for the Women Write Now Fellowship is highly competitive and includes a rigorous review process by a panel of industry professionals. The goal of this program is to provide an opportunity for emerging female writers to develop their skills and gain recognition in Hollywood.




About Hartbeat’s Women Write Now

Developed in partnership with Sundance Institute and Founded by Hartbeat CEO Thai Randolph and Head of Film, Candice Wilson Cherry, WOMEN WRITE NOW is a comedic writing fellowship designed to champion the next generation of Black women in comedy through mentorship, advocacy, production, and exhibition.

Now in its second year, this year’s fellowship brought in three emerging writers, Mayanna Berrin, Kianna Butler Jabangwe, and Danielle Solomon to develop and produce their comedic short scripts under the guidance of some of the most influential Black women in comedy. The resulting projects were then brought into production by Hartbeat studios, where fellows served as creative producers on their projects working alongside guest directors Nicole Byer, Tika Sumpter, and Logan Browning.





Now, after several months of development, the final projects are set to make their debut exclusively during the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Each of the selected fellows will also receive a one-year first-look deal with Hartbeat. For more information, visit: https://womenwritenow.com/about
