The Publicists Recognition Brunch 2023 Celebrates the Best Industry Leaders
The BET Awards creates so much excitement and buzz every June — this year was no different. And alongside this famous ceremony is The Publicists Recognition Brunch 2023, which honors those publicists who are promoting Black culture.
Co-founded by Nia Dillion from Innovative Campaigns, the PR Brunch is an event that highlights the tireless work of professionals in Black entertainment, media, lifestyle, music, and sports. What started as a one-off event has since become an annual mainstay. That’s because these publicists deserve special recognition as the people that make great things happen. Their efforts are integral to a thriving Black culture, and so it’s important to take time to shine the spotlight on them.
Highlights of The Publicists Recognition Brunch 2023
This year, the PR Brunch featured five honorees as well as a lifetime achievement award. Let’s dive into the winners and look at all they’ve accomplished.
Lifetime Achievement: Latashia DeVeaux
Latashia DeVeaux has worked for more than 25 years in the field of talent relations, publicity, and events. Her extensive experience in the entertainment industry has made her particularly important in raising up Black voices. The list of her clients and partners is staggering, including the likes of Viacom, BET, Los Angeles County, United States Armed Forces Entertainment, and so many more.
Lifetime Award Recipient Latashia DeVeaux
In recent years, DeVeaux has leveraged her connections and position in the industry to work as a tireless advocate for inclusion, and she has many long standing connections to many community organizations and charities.
Aye Yo Kells Jamison
CEO of the Jamison Agency and entrepreneur, Aye Yo Kells Jamison has found success as a publicist, working extensively in television and events. Her career spans the US, finding success in LA, Charlotte, Miami, and Atlanta. She is the winner of several awards for her work as a publicist. Her new venture Creatives Who Hustle works as a support system to provide knowledge, tools, resources, and encouragement to people trying to get into the entertainment industry.
Ernest Dukes
Ernest Dukes founded the Nottingham Agency in 2009. With this venture, he forged a path of strong creative strategy that uses the values of inclusivity and authenticity. That approach has led to a series of impressive collaborations in the entertainment industry. Dukes’ company has worked for such film and television productions as I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Glass Onion, BET Soul Train Awards 2022, The Woman King, to name only a handful.
Publicist and Midori Start Media Founder, Krystle Coleman
Krystle Coleman
Krystle Coleman is the dynamic founder behind Midori Star Media, an agency with a superstar client list and an impressive list of connections. Coleman is also a creative herself as a credited writer and event designer. She has made an impact across multiple industries: fashion, beauty, sports, and entertainment. That broad experience means Coleman brings a tremendous amount of experience to all of her projects.
Publicist and Media Personality, Kita Williams (Black Love Doc Season 5)
Kita Williams
Kita Williams came to prominence as a cast member on The T.O. Show in 2009. She went on to become a trailblazer in Hollywood as a celebrity publicist and brand architect. It’s a journey that has come full circle — she began in front of the camera and is now proving to be a star behind-the-scenes working to promote and advocate talent. Her clients range from Brandy to Niecy Nash, and she even counts BET, ESPN, and Oprah’s OWN Network among her network clients.
Eboyné Jackson
Eboyné Jackson boasts a wide range of career successes as a brand strategist, producer, and lifestyle journalist. Her Divine Influence PR firm focuses on entertainment, faith, fashion, and beauty. While managing an impressive client roster, she also works as an Associate Editor for Sheen Magazine and is the founder of multiple lifestyle and fashion brands including Luxe on 7th and Eboyné Royale. On top of all this, she leads a prayer ministry focused on uplifting women.
Founder Taylor Re Lynn, Cultured Focus Magazine
Keith Pittman Keith Jordan Pittman is an actor and writer from Gainesville, Florida. Pittman obtained his training at the Theatre of the Arts Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. Television work has included 'DMZ' by director Ava DuVernay (HBO Max Series), Issa Rae’s ‘Insecure’ (HBO), America’s Court with Judge Ross, and films such as The Matrix Reborn, 1 Night in San Diego, Starf*cker, Theater work and top television commercials Bow Flex, Sony Headphones, and Fuji Film. The PR Brunch always reminds us how important publicists are to the culture. Because they spend their careers promoting others, we rarely take the time to acknowledge the work they do to bring talent to the forefront.
