Director Stephan Rick on Creating ‘The Good Neighbor’ Film Thriller
Director and co-writer Stephan Rick's psychological thriller THE GOOD NEIGHBOR, starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Vikings; The Tudors), Luke Kleintank (Crown Vic), Eloise Smyth (Harlots), and Bruce Davison (X-Men), hits theaters on June 17, 2022.
The film is a remake of the German thriller UNTER NACHBARN (THE GOOD NEIGHBOUR), which marked Rick’s feature film debut and earned him a nomination in the "Best Director / Feature Film" category at the German Directors Award Metropolis. Coming full circle, Rick now revisits his Hitchcockian thriller ten-years after the making to now terrify an American audience with the same question:"How well do you know your neighbor?"
Rick’s other notable credits include the International Emmy Award-nominated series 13 Hours: Race Against Time; the thriller THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON, which premiered at the Zurich Film Festival and caught the attention of legendary producer Dick Wolf who then had Rick direct the horror thriller THE SUPER, starring Val Kilmer and Patrick Flueger.

A nightmarish evening unfolds for neighbors David (Luke Kleintank) and Robert (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) when they accidentally hit a woman on her bike and flee the scene of the crime. When Vanessa (Eloise Smyth), the victim’s sister, arrives searching for the truth, Robert does unspeakable things to protect their secret.
About the Director: Stephan Rick
German born writer/director Stephan Rick grew up at the foot of the Bavarian alps in a small village and discovered early on an interest for both twisted characters and dark tales.
Rick’s Unter Nachbarn (i.e. The Good Neighbor), starring Maxim Mehmet, Charly Hübner and Petra Schmidt-Schaller screened at more than 30 festivals around the world and earned Rick a nomination in the “Best Director / Feature Film” category at the German Directors Award Metropolis. Rick new psychological thriller The Good Neighbor is a remake of his earlier Unter Nachbarn film, which has been highly anticipated and getting amazing buzz among industry insiders and fans.
Rick’s other notable credits include the International Emmy Award-nominated series Allein gegen die Zeit (i.e13 Hours: Race Against Time); the thriller The Dark Side of the Moon, starring Jürgen Prochnow and Moritz Bleibtreu, which premiered at the Zurich Film Festival and screened at the Berlin Film Festival and at Fantasia International Film Festival. The film, based on Martin Suter’s bestselling novel by the same name, caught the attention of legendary producer Dick Wolf who then had Rick direct the horror thriller The Super, starring Val Kilmer and Patrick Flueger.
Rick studied at Ruhr University Bochum and at the Baden-Wurttemberg Film Academy where he directed a number of prize-winning short films.
Rick resides in Los Angeles.
