David Broza, the internationally acclaimed Israeli singer-songwriter, is a dynamic force whose music transcends borders and cultures. With a career spanning over four decades, Broza has been a relentless advocate for peace, social justice, and human connection through his art. His signature sound, a vibrant fusion of Spanish flamenco, American folk, rock and roll, and poetry, reflects his diverse upbringing in Israel, Spain, and England. Broza's commitment to humanitarian projects, particularly in resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through dialogue and music, has made him a revered figure globally.

The "Not Exactly Xmas Show" Legacy

The "Not Exactly Xmas Show" has a poignant origin, tracing back to November 4, 1995, when Broza's concert in New York coincided with the assassination of Israel’s Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The canceled concert turned into an all-night vigil, where mourners gathered to share in grief, song, and poetry. Rescheduled for December 24, 1995, this event became the first "Not Exactly Xmas Show." Over the years, this annual concert has evolved into a holiday reunion, moving from venues like Town Hall, 92nd St Y, Symphony Space, and the Streicker Center to its current home at City Winery NYC.

29th Anniversary Celebration

On December 25, 2024, David Broza will celebrate the 29th anniversary of the "Not Exactly Xmas Show" with two performances at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM at City Winery NYC. This year’s event promises to be as exhilarating as ever, featuring Broza’s Cuban band, including master percussionist Manuel Carro, Cuban tres guitarist Yuniel Jimenez, and bassist Jorge Bringas. The show will be a testament to Broza’s versatility, blending his Israeli hits with Spanish flamenco, Cuban rhythms, American folk, and rock and roll. As is tradition, surprise guest musicians will add an element of excitement and unpredictability to the evening.

Humanitarian and Musical Impact

Broza’s music is more than just entertainment; it is a platform for dialogue and tolerance. His 1977 hit song "Yihye Tov" (Things Will Be Better) remains an Israeli peace anthem, reflecting his lifelong dedication to promoting peace. Projects like "East Jerusalem West Jerusalem," a documentary and album featuring both Israeli and Palestinian musicians, underscore his commitment to cross-cultural collaboration and coexistence. Additionally, Broza’s non-profit organization, One Million Guitars, provides hand-crafted guitars and musical education to underprivileged school children worldwide.

A Legacy of Peace and Music

David Broza’s "Not Exactly Xmas Show" is more than a concert; it is a celebration of unity, peace, and the transformative power of music. As Broza continues to inspire audiences with his energetic performances and sincere message, the 29th anniversary of this special event serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of his work. Whether through his music, humanitarian efforts, or the connections he fosters, David Broza remains a beacon of hope and a testament to the universal language of music.
