The New Comic-con Experience: HomeCon

In the midst of chaos, uncertainty, anxiety, fear, stress, and life under quarantine because of the Covid-19 virus, it’s important to have something fun to look forward to. For many entertainers, social distancing has been tough and many have lost their jobs, but for some like Paul Amos (Jupiter's Legacy, Lost Girl, Assassin's Creed) and Rachel Skarsten (Batwoman, Lost Girl, Reign) this became an opportunity to create something new - Homecon. Comic-con fans and other celebrity fans have the ultimate event to look forward to now.

Homecon is the first ever at home virtual comic-con experience where fans will have the chance to talk through video chats with their favourite celebrities and also virtually attend 15 different media panels. This will take place April 10-11th online at https://www.twitch.tv/homeconofficial.

Eleven days ago, after chatting with fans and finding out what makes them happy, Paul came up with an idea for Homecon. Then he shared it with Rachel who loved it and wanted to be part of it.

“We came up with this idea and wanted to create a space that brought the community together,” said Paul in an interview with Cultured Focus Magazine. “We wanted to bring people together and help them in this crisis. This had never been done before at such a level.”

There are two ways people can subscribe. One is to pay $4.99/month or if you have an Amazon Prime account you can register for free at https://linktr.ee/homeconofficial. To sign up and pay for your video chat experience with the celebrities, visit: https://homeconofficial.as.me/vip.

“The highlight of this event is that you will get to spend time with so many different people. You may seem alone in your flight but you will connect to everyone else and be part of a community of actors and fans in an intimate setting, in a fun interactive environment,” said Paul.

In addition to having fun and bringing people together, celebrities will also donate the proceeds to their favourite charity. Paul and Rachel have chosen ‘First Responders First’ as the event's charity for donations to help the workers who work tirelessly during the Covid-19 crisis. Paul also said that they have put their own money down to make this event happen.

“So many actors wanted to be part of this event and give back to the respective community. We have a waiting list for Hong Kong 2.0. We have 40 celebrities as of now. They are our friends or friends of friends. Rachel’s and mine personal network. No-one is getting paid to make this happen,” said Paul.

Some of the celebrities that will be part of Homecon include: Inbar Lavi (Lucifer), Casey Cott (Riverdale), Gregg Sulkin (Marvel's Runaways), Ben Lewis (Arrow), Adelaide Kane (Reign), and Andrew Howard (HBO’s Watchmen).

The one-on-one chats with celebrities will replace the traditional ‘Signing table.’ This will be the exclusive part of the event. Fans will receive a scheduled invite via the Zoom platform, which can be downloaded at: https://zoom.us/download Each chat will cost $50 (US$) for five minutes with a maximum of two that can be purchased per fan. Talent can choose to have a silent moderator present.

“Nothing will replace human contact. I pray to God we get back there quickly. In a crisis there is always a beautiful opportunity if you look for it within yourself to find it. Don’t look for bad news. Look for the positive. It's all about expansion and creation. We will learn from this and create something that has never been made before,” said Paul.

The organizers plan on having this experience once every month with next month being Hong Kong 2.0.
