'Eclipsed', Lupita Nyong’o Captivated on Broadway

Eclipsed is a history-making Broadway show and the first to feature an all-female cast, plus a female writer and director. The Tony Award nominated ‘Eclipsed’ details the brutal violence of the Liberian civil war. The wives, who are really sexual slaves of the rebel commanding officer, prefer to refer to one another anonymously — as Number One, Number Two, Number Three or Number Four — as they detail the horror and abuse they are forced to endure on a daily basis. Headlined by the Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, “Eclipsed,” shines with a compassion that makes us see beyond the human suffering to the indomitable spirit of its characters. Even though it depicts events that happened more than a decade ago, the play resonates today, as some African countries continue to experience violence, with women often being the most brutalized victims. Directed by Liesl Tommy and costarring Saycon Sengbloh, Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, and Zainab Jah, the power of trust and sisterhood shines through. Nominated for a record 6 Tony Awards, 'Eclipsed' is a must see. For more information, visit: http://www.broadway.com
